About Me

Unique Blogger

unique-blogger-award

My effort to catch up on ‘let’s meet the person behind the blog‘ continues. πŸ™‚ As mentioned many times before, I do appreciate all of those lovely fellow bloggers for their shout outs. I do get distracted quite easily, but my inner organiserΒ took over the other day, created a spreadsheet (colour coded of course) and thinks it’s on the top of it. Let’s see what happens, eh? πŸ˜‰

Today’s questions are from KierstenΒ from Unce Upon a Spine. Kiersten has two beautiful pets –Β a super cute white dog fluffball and a lovely tabby cat. She is also a fellowΒ Neil Gaiman’s fan and writes thoughtful reviews. Her doggieΒ Beaker was a bit poorly recently but is better. Please stop by and show them both some love.  ❀️

Kiersten asked me following questions:

  • What’s the strangest book you’ve ever read? (Be specific. What made it strange?)

Alices Adventures in Wonderland

Ha ha, it entirely depends what we deem as strange. To me, strange = unique, unusual, interesting, something different and surprising. So I’ll go with that definition and choose Alice in Wonderland as it is one of my favourite books.

β€œI’m afraid I can’t explain myself, sir. Because I am not myself, you see?”

I absolutely adore Lewis Carroll‘s non-sensical world and his playfulness with language. I also applaud him for his riddles:

β€œWhy is a raven like a writing desk?”

That non-sensical aspect of this book is something that is both magical and unique. There is a lot of humour in it as well the ability to laugh at ourselves, which is something I always appreciate.

β€œBut I don’t want to go among mad people,” Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, “or you wouldn’t have come here.”

Which ties-in nicely with the second question:

  • Which character fromΒ Alice in WonderlandΒ best describes you?

alice

I think Alice is probably the one I relate with the most. Mind you all those strange and wonderfully weird characters describe me pretty accurately at times as well. πŸ˜‰

Why Alice? ‘Curiouser and curiouser‘ is my nickname. I am relentlessly curious and it does get me into trouble a lot. Alice is also someone who goes against norms. She doesn’t do things because she is supposed to. And that is something I strongly agree with. πŸ˜‰ I love her quote of “the only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible“. As a life-coach in training, I believe our thoughts are creating our reality. I also share with her love for imagination, creativity and all those crazy and wild adventures. πŸ™‚

  • If you could resurrect any dead book character, who would it be?

GoT book

Ok, I don’t want to accidentally give away any spoilers. If you haven’t read George R.R Martin’s Songs of Ice and Fire and / or have not seen Game of Thrones, please stop reading here.

.

.

.

.

.

I still haven’t forgiven Martin for killing off one of my favourite characters. He has quite a gift of ruthlessly dispatching characters I seem to enjoy reading about but this one was just NO!

.

.

.

If I could bring this character back, it would be Eddard (Ned) Stark. Because he is good, he has strong morals and he cares for his children and his wife very deeply. He is also, one of my favourite father figures and I talked about him a bit more here.

.

That was fun! Thanks again Kiersten for thinking of me. ❀️

Now I am to ask three questions in return and tag / nominate some of you.

I always love getting to know fellow bloggers a bit more but at the same time, I don’t want to become annoying by tagging people too often. So please, no pressure, disregard if that’s something you don’t fancy or don’t have time for.

I nominate:

Nicole | Cam |AmaliaΒ | KaleenaΒ | Catherine

And everyone else who fancy giving it a go! πŸ™‚

My questions are:

  1. What character’s flaw irritates you?Β (Be specific. What irritates you about it?) πŸ™‚
  2. If magic was real, what spell would you try to learn first? And of course, why? πŸ™‚
  3. What would be the best thing you could reasonably expect to find in a cave? Seriously, I want to know! πŸ˜€

Over to you!

Fancy letting me know what would be the best thing you could reasonably expect to find in a cave? πŸ˜‰

    1. You are welcome. I love your fun and unique blog. 😘

Ha ha ha, I thought I might know your answer but then again, it may be a complete surprise. I am super curious and can’t wait to find out. πŸ™‚

  1. Oh, I love you answers, Vera. Especially as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is one of my all-time fav books. And of course, yes, I too identify with Alice herself but also, I have a great many traits of the Mad Hatter. He too is one of my all-time fav characters.

As for GoT, I’m probably one of the last people on the planet who has (a) never read the books and (b) never seen an episode of the TV show. Just not my thing. So, good luck to Ned, he got your vote at least! πŸ˜‰

As for what I would like to find in a cave? Hmm, the frivolous side of me immediately said a four-poster bed, then I thought about it, and the anthropologist in me said: bones. Very ancient bones! Now wouldn’t that be a discovery of a lifetime!

    1. I love Mad Hatter too. 😊 And I could definitely identify with quite a few of his traits as well.

Ha ha, I absolutely understand, GoT is not everyone’s cup of tea. 😊

Ancient bones would be such an excellent discovery, all those potential stories to tell and learn from. I am fascinated by anthropology- how wonderful to hear you have a connection to it. 😊

And thanks for reading and for stopping by. I appreciate your comments. 😊

      1. I think we all have that connection to Alice and the Mad Hatter, those of us that love the books, that is. There is a little something mad in all of us! ☺️

Anthropology is just one of the Earth Sciences I studied. I got deeply involved in geology as well as astronomy. As below so above … And it’s good to be endlessly fascinated and discover not only how the universe works, but ourselves.

And thank you, I love stopping by for my visits here.

      2. Earth Sciences sound all super interesting. As a rock climber, I am mildly obsessed with geology, especially rock formations and rocks in general. πŸ™‚ I agree with you. Endless fascination with people and are planet is what makes this world such a beautiful place.

  2. Love the questions and answers on this tag! I’m a huge Wonderland fan πŸ™‚

I would totally bring back Ned or Cat but I have a friend who makes an excellent argument for Joanna Lannister living and changing the course of everything.

Also I think the best thing I could find in a cave would be a room in a five-star resort that opens up to Belle’s library and I’d never have to leave πŸ™‚

    1. If you fancy either mine or Kiersten questions, consider yourself tagged. πŸ™‚ I don’t want to tag people too often but I am super curious to hear how you would answer them (should you feel like it). πŸ™‚

That is such an interesting thought. Joanna Lannister is someone who actually never crossed my mind but thinking about it, her living would have definitely changed the course of everything. I love it. I will spend days thinking about it now (something I am actually looking forward to. πŸ™‚ )

Oh, that sounds fun. Belle’s library would be such a magical place to have an access to! πŸ™‚ I could see getting happily lost there and never ever leaving again. πŸ˜€

  3. I love your reasons for why Alice is your choice! I don’t know if you’ve been falling down rabbit holes in your spare time, but her personality totally suits you. πŸ˜€ And oh boy, I think my answer to the dead character question would just be a list of GRRM characters. πŸ˜€ Your choice would be at the top of the list because I feel like that character is kind of a Patient Zero, and their death kind of opened up the pandora box.

And I would love to find a note/map/riddles in a bottle in a cave! That’s not too unreasonable, right? πŸ˜‰

    1. I would love to fall down a rabbit hole Kathy. I used to wonder around as a kid searching for them; I was so gutted I could not find any though. I still look for them from time to time. πŸ˜‰

Oh, I did not look at it that way but I absolutely agree. Poor Ned, bless his heart, was the pandora box opener so to speak. I am hearing rumors he may be coming back though… if John Snow can, then why not I guess?

Finding such treasure box would be so much fun!! I don’t think it’s unreasonable at all and I love that idea. πŸ™‚

      1. Well people are speculating because of that ending… I honestly don’t know if it’s true though… but one can always hope. πŸ™‚

Oh, that is so sweet about those Hogwarts letters. πŸ’–

  4. I think i only read the Disney book version of Alice… haha πŸ˜€
I did see the new-ish movie though.

You just reminded me of all the GoT characters that got killed… my choice would be the one who died in the fight-challenge thing. The you-know-who… πŸ˜€

    1. πŸ™‚ I totally count movies! πŸ™‚

Oh yes, GoT and its reliable characters’ dispatch. I think know who you mean. It is something to do with a handsome guy getting walloped by a monstrous thing? I am still waking up so I could be barking the wrong tree here…. πŸ™‚ There are rumors that Ned is coming back apparently… I mean if John Snow can, why not? πŸ˜‰

      1. Yea, that’s the guy πŸ˜€

Haha, i think the new season will be out way before a next book appears so we’ll see. I think at this point they can just whatever they want πŸ˜€

  5. Ever since I read Heartless by Marissa Meyer (and loved it, apparently it’s an unpopular opinion lol), I’d been pressed to finally read Alice in Wonderland! β€œthe only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possibleβ€œ is such a wonderful quote, and I totally believe in it. 😊 But is it just me, or was the Disney movie just a tad creepy? Maybe it’s just because I was a kid when I last watched it lol….

Also, I totally agree with your choice to bring back from the dead! I’m not a huge Game of Thrones lover (I dabbled in the later seasons as a casual fan) but this character to this day remains one of my favorites! He’s kinda the reason I stopped watching after season 1. πŸ˜‰

Excellent post! I absolutely thumbs up your answers! ❀ πŸ‘

    1. Oh, I did not realise loving Heartless is an unpopular opinion. πŸ™‚ It really surprised me as I honestly thought it was going to be some ‘butched’ retelling. πŸ˜‰ How arrogant of me, I know. πŸ™‚ I’ll tell you a secret: I’ve never seen the Disney movie. πŸ™‚ I am planning on watching it though as a tad creepy sounds extremely intriguing. I’ll let you know. πŸ™‚

I know, poor Ned, bless his heart. It’s totally ok, GoT is not for everyone and many of my friends can not stand it. πŸ™‚ Side note: there are rumours that Ned may somehow come back… psssst though! πŸ™‚

Thank you again for such kind words, they really mean a lot to me. ❀ ❀ ❀

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Haha yeah, I think Heartless gets a fair amount of criticism despite others still enjoying it. πŸ˜‰ And ooh, I did not know such rumors existed! That’s totally awesome incentive for me to continue watching then. Cheers! ❀ ❀ ❀

  6. I have seen Alice show and are aware of some references but not read whole book. Wondering whether to read or listen on audio books. A range of people have narrated audio book there are versions for a couple of pounds or celebrity versions for Β£16 so complicated!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’ve downloaded the Audible app, where you can trial a certain audio versions of books. I find this helps me with figuring out if a certain narrative works for me or doesn’t. There used to be a free 3 month trial as well on Audible where you could join for free for 3 months with each month receiving a free credit for an audiobook. I don’t know if that deal is still on but it can also help with figuring out what works etc.

Good luck with the book, I really love Alice in Wonderland. πŸ™‚
